Obituary for Marie Virginia Loyzelle (Landon)

Marie V. Loyzelle (nee Landon)
Jan. 4, 1919-Apr. 27, 2018
Marie Virginia Loyzelle was called to be with her creator Apr. 27, 2018. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Norbert, fondly called Johnny or Red. They were married for 61 years upon his passing in 2003. Marie was the last living relative of her generation in both the Loyzelle and Landon families. She lived a full, productive life for 99 1/3 years.
She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Knight of Mickleton, NJ; Janet Dalton of Longview, TX; and Clare (Thomas)Hearn of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shawn Allen of Longview, TX, and Rebekah Dalton of Carrollton, TX. Marie also leaves nieces and nephews from the Loyzelle and Landon families.
Marie was a meticulous homemaker who loved her girls and raised them to be productive, independent women. Mom and Dad loved dancing and did so in the living room frequently. She liked spending time with her lady friends at Bingo, playing Yahtzee, and card games. After her daughters grew up Marie worked part time for the Burlington County Audio-Visual Aids commission for 20 years.
At 23 years old Marie married her sweetheart, Johnny Loyzelle, whom she met in the 4th grade. She always said she knew he was the one she would marry from the minute she laid eyes on him. Their wedding was Sept. 12, 1942, in Tampa, FL. Shortly thereafter he was deployed to England with the Army-Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. During WWII Marie worked in an ammunitions factory until her darling soldier came home from the war in 1945. Johnny and Marie set up housekeeping and started a family in 1950.
In 1959 the Loyzelle family moved from north Jersey to Mt. Holly. Mom was so thrilled to choose her kitchen and bathroom tiles in our brand-new house on 816 Holly Lane. Marie was active with the Westampton School PTA, and volunteered in the school library and nurse’s room. She participated in the Altar Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Holly. Each year she walked the neighborhood collecting donations for children’s charities.
Widowed in 2003, Marie decided to move to Longview, TX, to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She resided there until her passing this spring.
A celebration of her life is planned at the Lee Funeral Home on Saturday, July 28. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to Mother-Child Residential Services, 151 N. Broad St., Woodbury, NJ 08096, or Childrens’ Hospital of Philadelphia.
