Obituary for Shirley Mae Adkinson (Rattley)
Shirley Mae Adkinson passed away Wednesday
February 8, 2023. She was 75. Born in Wilmington, NC. She was
a current resident of Florence, NJ. Shirley attended Fayetteville
State College, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree
and was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Predeceased by parents Colo Rattley, Sr and Elnora Rattley
(Perkins) as well as siblings Colo Rattley, Jr, Lula Mae Brown,
Ulysees Rattley, James Rattley, Leroy Harold Rattley, Mary
Magdeline Rattley, Lillian Jean Robinson, Daisy Mae and
Charles. Also predeceased by granddaughter Ariana Williams.
She is survived by daughters Chavella Williams (Ronald),
Rachelle (Richard) Barrington, grandchildren Tatiana Williams,
Kiera Richardson, Brian Richardson, and special “great-grand
children” Adonis Timbers and Ares Bray. Also survived by sister
Eloise Rattle Roy as well as a host of other nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Shirley was a vibrant fun-loving spirited person who made
friends everywhere she went. Prior to retirement she worked
as a Customer Service Specialist for many years with American
Cyanamid. After retirement she become a substitute teacher in
the Willingboro School District. She was an excellent
homemaker, cook and seamstress. She was always willing to
help with any special projects.
She will be deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of Shirley's Life be held on Saturday February 25th at 11AM at On the Wings of Ministries, 348 W 4th St., Florence, NJ. Relatives and Friends may visit with the family from 9-11AM at the church.
