RAFAEL MELENDEZ-RODRIGUEZ
August 1, 1929 – May 27, 2023
Rafael Melendez-Rodriguez, age 93 years of Voorhees, passed away on May 27, 2023. He was born on August 1, 1929, in Caguas, Puerto Rico to the late Hilario Melendez and Josefa Rodriguez. Rafael was a high school track star, was a sports fan, especially a Mets, Jets, and Knicks fan, and loved to play dominos. Most of all, Rafael loved being around family and attending family gatherings. He served twenty (20) years in the U.S. Army, including serving in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally Meritorious Service. He was stationed in various military installations such as Ft. Jay, NY, Ft. Kobbe, Canal Zone, Ft. Dix, NJ, and Butzbach, Germany. He also served in the U.S. Postal Service and was Past Grand Knight in Puerto Rico and in Council # 7814 in Mt. Holly.
Beloved husband of the late Dora Torres-Melendez. Devoted father of Rafael Melendez (Luz), Alberto Melendez (Vivian), and Edwin Melendez (Yolanda). Loving grandfather of Stephanie (Jack), Bianca (Matt), Andrew, Victoria Paloma, and Edwin, Jr. Dear brother of Edilia Melendez-Rodriguez.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday June 8, 2023, at 11AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 1603 Marne Highway, Hainesport, NJ. Relatives and Friends may visit with the family Thursday morning from 9AM-10:30AM at the Lee Funeral Home, 317 High St., Mt. Holly, NJ. Interment will follow the mass in Brig. General C.
